“Pessimism is destructive, realism lacks imagination, and optimism opens all the doors.”
Optimism doesn't mean you are happy all of the time, and it's not a form of ignorance, and it is absolutely not about passive acceptance. It's about seeing reality, and knowing you have a part in creating it. It's about seeing the "bad" things, but also seeing that some aspects of those things can be changed. It's about going through the hardships, the challenges, and knowing the right mindset and actions have the potential to create a better reality.
We are born wide-eyed optimists, we go out to discover things, and we focus on the good things. As human beings we were gifted with an extraordinary capacity choose our outlook. We are gifted to choose our perspectives, and to co-create, to co-author, to design and refine our lives. A lot of people go through life thinking that it is something that is simply and perpetually happening to them and that is not the full truth.
Sure, there are elements, proverbial monkey wrenches, unexpected circumstances that you couldn’t have predicted, planned for or foreseen. However these are such small aspects of a much greater picture. Bad things happen, but good things happen too. When we make an active choice to focus on the good, to be hopeful, to be optimistic, we can shift all aspects of our lives.
If you take your perspective of life and pan out, and put these unexpected events up in comparison to our unique innate ability to author, to co-create, to choose our reactions, and actions, our paradigms and outlooks the truth is rather astounding. It can be an overwhelming and awe inducing feeling to begin to grasp the concept that the story of our life largely is penned by our own hand. That can be an awkward amount of responsibility for most of us to accept, it can be painful if we are realizing there were things we could have changed about the years we have simply endured.
The realization can also be completely liberating, an opportunity to place our lives on an upswing, that allows us to change our view. If one of the first lines you write after you come to this realization, is that you decide to let go of the past and become an optimist, the rest of your story can be transformed in dynamic and beautiful ways. Jason Silva said “We do have the capacity to turn our lives into a work of art, and why shouldn’t we?”
We can decide to make an active decision to be optimistic to look for the beautiful in every experience, to create ourselves, to curate our life. That intention, coupled with strategic action, with actively curating who we hang out with, where we spend our time, what we do in our day to day can literally transform our life into almost anything we want. Not only does choosing active optimism have the ability to change our own life, it effects and transforms the world around you, it inspires others, it lifts others up. Optimistic thoughts bring about optimal realities.
What we believe determines what we make true. What we think about and focus on, how we behave, what we go after, is determined by our deep subconscious beliefs. To bring a desired goal to reality, we have to first believe it’s possible, even on a subconscious level we must feel it’s possible. We can compose our lives, if we believe we can. Begin learning to become optimistic, and begin altering your reality.
